Description

AGH University of Science and Technology is one of the best and most renowned modern Polish universities. For many years it has been ranked in the top of the list of institutions of higher education. AGH UST is a leading Polish university in modern technologies, and belongs to a group of prestigious international educational centres.

The Department of Telecommunications is part of the Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics and Telecommunications, and is an important centre for education and research in information and communication technologies focusing on high-speed networking and services to the e-world. The Department staff consists of more than 50 people (including 5 full professors); about 25 doctoral research students are affiliated with the Department. Since 1996 the Department of Telecommunications has been involved in various European projects including 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Framework Programmes. It has also been active in developing strategies and network planning for major Polish telecommunications operators. Its staff has served as consultants for network operators, equipment vendors, and regulatory bodies in Poland and abroad as well as reviewers of European projects. Department members have been active in professional societies, organizing international and national conferences (including IEEE and IFIP events) and research workshops as well as holding important editorial positions in leading journals and magazines, such as IEEE Communications Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Communications, Computer Communications, and Security and Communication Networks.

Mikołaj Leszczuk

Mikołaj Leszczuk, PhD. He started his professional career in 1996 at COMARCH SA as manager of the Multimedia Technology Department, and then at COMARCH Multimedia as the CEO. Since 1999 has been employed at the AGH Department of Telecommunications. In 2000 he moved to Spain for a four-month scholarship at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. After returning to Poland, he was employed at the Department of Telecommunications as a research and teaching assistant, and in 2006, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation as an assistant professor. His current research interests are focused on multimedia data analysis and processing systems, with particular emphasis on Quality of Experience. He (co-)authored approximately 130 scientific publications of which 23 are publications in journals of the JCR database. He has been teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. He has cosupervised 1 PhD student and supervised (promoted) approximately 40 MSc students of various nationalities. He has participated more than 20 major research projects, including FP4, FP5, FP6, FP7, Horizon 2020, OPIE, Culture 2000, PHARE, eContent+, and Eureka!. Between 2009 and 2014, he was the administrator of the major international INDECT research project, dealing with solutions for intelligent surveillance and automatic detection of suspicious behaviour and violence in urban environments. He is a member of VQEG (Video Quality Experts Group, board member), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), and GAMA (Gateway to Archives of Media Art). Andrzej Dziech

Professor Andrzej Dziech, Ph.D. Hab. - received his M.Sc. and Ph.D in telecommunications from the Electro-technical Institute in Leningrad, Faculty of Automation and Computer Science, in 1970 and 1973. He received postdoctoral degree in engineering, Science Tech, from the Poznan University of Technology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 1978. He is full professor from 1986. His fields of interest are related to digital communication, image and data processing, data compression, information and coding theory, random signals, computer communications networks and signal processing. He has worked in number of foreign universities, most recently in 2001-2003 he worked as a visiting professor at the University of Wuppertal in Germany. He co-authored 180 publications including 5 books. He promoted 18 Ph.D. students and approx. 100 M.Sc. He was awarded 4 times by Ministry of Education of Poland for his research achievements. He serves as a co-ordinator of FP7 project INDECT.

Jan Derkacz

Jan Derkacz is staf member of Department of Telecommunications at AGH - University of Science and Technology. He actively participated to serveral national and international research project in the area of Information and Communications Technologies and in the area of Security. Michał Grega

Michał Grega received his MSc Eng. in 2006 and Ph.D in 2011 in Telecommunications from the AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow. In 2012 he graduated from a post diploma study on project management from Krakow University of Economics receiving an IPMA D certificate. In 2012 he was appointed a Visitiong Scholar at the Berkeley University, CA, USA.

He is a reviewer for international journals and conferences. He was appointed as a reviewer for project proposal at the European Comission. He has actively participated in several European projects (OASIS, GAMA, CONTENT, INDECT, SARACEN) as well as grants supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Michał Grega is the co-author of over 40 research papers.

Lucjan Janowski

Lucjan Janowski is an assistant professor at the Department of Telecommunications (AGH University of Science and Technology). He received his M.Sc. degree in Telecommunications in 2002 and Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications in 2006 both from the AGH University of Science and Technology. During 2007 he worked on a post-doc position in CNRS-LAAS (Laboratory for Analysis and Architecture of Systems of CNRS) in France where prepared both malicious traffic analysis and anomaly detection algorithms. In 2010/2011 he spent half a year on a post-doc position in University of Geneva working on QoE for health applicaitons. His main interests are statistics and probabilistic modelling of subjects and subjective rates used in QoE evaluation. He has participated in several commercial and scientific projects.
